is the home of Al and Barbara Garvey. They started the construction in September of 2005 and finished 2008. It was designed and the construction supervised by Al who regarded it not only as his and Barbara’s home but as a center for Tango Vallarta. It centers around a 590 square foot dance floor that is large enough for 15 couples to dance comfortably. The view of the old town and the Bahia de Banderas from the dancefloor and terrace is magnificent.
.The house is called Lo de Barbarita which echos the name of some of the most famous Buenos aires dance halls of the 30’s an 40’s such as “Lo de Laura” The name means Barbara’s place. If it were in Paris, for example it would be called: Chez Barbara. The style is a little Buenos Aires, a little more Puerto Vallarta and a lot Mexico. It is here where we try to bring these divergent cultures together. During the high season, November to May we have two milongas a month attended by 30 to 40 people. We have had as many as 50. During the low season, May to October we cut that down to only once a month. In the summer months most of the snow birds have flown north to escape the heat leaving us to enjoy the abundance of parking places. Here are some photos of Lo de Barbarita. We hope that they will entice you to come and visit us and get a taste of what it is like to dance tango in paradise.
